Recall - R2 Microphone for Cox Box

Web posted on December 05, 2012

This recall involves NK R2 microphones manufactured before September 1, 2012. The recalled product is a microphone designed to be used by the navigator (coxswain) of rowed racing boats to direct the rowers. It is made of a rubber U-shaped base attached to a blue headband. An uncovered black metal microphone boom is attached to one end of the U and a cable with a round, rubber-covered connector is attached to the other end.

The microphones are used with the Cox Box and Cox Box Mini voice amplifiers. The NK logo appears on the headband.

Only the microphone with the rubber R2 connector and uncovered metal boom are included in this recall. Microphones with a rubber covering on the boom and a yellow date label on the cable are not included.

The metal boom of the microphone can conduct electricity from an exposed speaker wire or connector and shock or burn the user. Consumers should immediately stop using the NK R2 Microphone with the metal boom and return it to Regatta Sport or Nielsen-Kellerman for a free replacement.

Nielsen-Kellerman has received reports of five injuries in the United States and one in England. No incidents have been reported in Canada. Health Canada has received no reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these microphones.

The recalled products were manufactured in the United States by Nielsen-Kellerman Co. of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania and distributed by Nielsen-Kellerman Co. of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, and Regatta Sport Canada of St. Catharines, Ontario.

The recalled microphones were sold from November 2008 to September 2012 and approximately 230 of the recalled microphones were sold in Canada.
