House Destroyed in Gas Explosion

On January 31st, 2020, just prior to 1:38pm, there was a gas line explosion at a residence located near the intersection of Southcreek Trail and Edinburgh Road South in the City of Guelph. At the time of the explosion, there was a 41 year old female and a dog inside the residence.

Both the female and the dog were able to escape the scene without injury. The female was however transported to the Guelph General Hospital as a precaution. The residence sustained significant damage and surrounding houses sustained minor damage.

The immediate area has been evacuated and the Guelph Police Service is working with the Guelph Fire Department and other community partners to ensure the area is safe before residents will be allowed to attend back to their homes.

The investigation is ongoing and further details will be provided as they become available.
