Impaired driver stopped at RIDE

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) - On November 28, 2019 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on St Andrew Street West in the Town of Fergus. At approximately 11:00 p.m. the driver of a grey sport utility vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. check.

Officers formed the opinion that the driver had been consuming alcohol. A Roadside Screening Test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. They were arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Margaret Alexia PICKARD, 32-years-old of Nichol Twp, has been charged with Impaired Operation - 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on January 3, 2020.

(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) - On November 23, 2019 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on the Hanlon Expressway in the City of Guelph. At approximately 2:00 a.m. the driver of a grey pick-up truck entered the R.I.D.E. check.

Officers formed the opinion that the driver had been consuming alcohol. A Roadside Screening Test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. They were arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Jonathan CADANG, 23-years-old of Cambridge, has been charged with Impaired Operation - 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on December 24, 2019.

As a result of the investigation, Tyler William BALLANTYNE, 36-years-old of Guelph, has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation - 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on December 24, 2019.

Impaired driver arrested

(CROMARTY, ON) - On December 1, 2019 at approximately 9:15 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Perth detachment responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision involving a possible impaired driver near Cromarty.  

Officers responded quickly and located the motor vehicle. In speaking with the driver, it was determined that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired. The driver was arrested and transported to the Sebringville OPP detachment for further testing.   

Keith JOHNS, 52-years-old, of West Perth was arrested and charged with;  

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Stratford on December 30, 2019 to answer the charge.

The accused had their driver's licence seized and a 90 Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) was imposed. The motor vehicle was towed and impounded by statute.

"Those that make the decision to get behind the wheel of a vehicle impaired need to realize that impaired driving is simply not worth the risk - not to the innocent people who may be involved in a crash and not to the individual making the choice to get behind the wheel impaired." Multiple drug arrests in drug investigation  

 (PERTH COUNTY, ON) - On November 27, 2019, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Perth County Detachment, with the assistance of the Huron-Perth Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Grey-Bruce CSCU, and West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), seized a quantity of methamphetamine and cocaine from a vehicle in Perth County. Drug-trafficking paraphernalia was also seized.  

On the same day, as part of the same investigation, OPP Huron-Perth CSCU executed two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants on separate residences in Perth East and Perth South. Police seized methamphetamine and further drug-trafficking paraphernalia.  

The following individuals were arrested and charged with:  

Kayla BRAKE, 33-years-old of Cambridge

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

  • Obstruct Peace Officer

 Justin BEATTIE, 38-years-old of Grand Bend

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

Annamarie WEBER, 59-years-old of Perth East

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine

Jamie WEBER 59-years-old of Perth East

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine

  • 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The value of the seized Controlled Substances is estimated at $2,700.00. Police also seized cash and drug-trafficking paraphernalia valued at $7,500.00.  

Jamie WEBER was held for a Bail Hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice, Stratford on November 28, 2019.  

Kayla BRAKE, Justin BEATTIE and Annamarie WEBER are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Stratford on December 30, 2019 to answer the charges.

4 drivers charged with impaired in a week, drivers need to change behaviour

(CHATSWORTH, ON) - Over the past week Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged 4 more drivers with impaired driving in Grey Bruce detachment patrol area. Two of the occurrences included motor vehicle being involved in single vehicle collisions.

The 4 occurrences occurred in the following municipalities, two occurrences in Grey Highlands, one occurrence in South Bruce Peninsula and the fourth occurred in Georgian Bluffs.

In April of this year, Grey Bruce OPP reported a 50 percent increase of drivers charged with impaired driving throughout the detachment area, from the previous year.  In September an 81 percent increase was reported and now the numbers to date, compared to same time frame last year, show a 97 percent increase. From January 1, 2019 to September 19, 2019 Grey Bruce OPP officers have charged 132 drivers with impaired driving. In 2018, for the same time period, 67 drivers were charged with the same offence.

"It is the responsibility of every driver to drive sober. We are entering the holiday season, a time when people attend work parties and house gatherings to celebrate the season. Grey Bruce OPP are committed to public safety on our highways.

You can expect an increased presence of RIDE programs throughout the Grey Bruce OPP detachment area over the next month. If you are hosting a party or gathering, be responsible and arrange for sober drivers or a safe way home for your guests."

OPP arrest driver in a stolen pickup in north perth  

(LISTOWEL, ON) - On November 30, 2019 at approximately 9:30 p.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County detachment was on general patrol of Line 86, east of Listowel and observed a pickup driving erratically in its lane. The officer conducted a traffic stop to check on the driver.  

While speaking with the driver, the officer determined that the pickup had been stolen. The driver was arrested and charged.  

David ERNEST, 27-years-old, of Woodstock was arrested and charged with;  

  • Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

  • Driving while under suspension

 The driver was held for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice, London on December 1, 2019 to answer the charges.

Two suspended drivers stopped

 (PERTH COUNTY, ON) - Within the last few days, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County detachment have removed 2 suspended drivers from the road.  

An officer on general patrol of Perth Road 140, north of Listowel observed a sedan on the side of the road. The officer stopped to check on the driver. In speaking with the driver, it was determined that the driver was suspended from driving.   

Justin TOOPE-YORKE, 24-years-old, of Kitchener was charged the following;

  • Driving while under suspension

An officer on general patrol of Perth Line 43, north of Shakespeare observed a sedan disobey a stop sign. The officer conducted a traffic stop. In speaking with the driver, it was determined that the driver was suspended from driving.   

Abdullah QURBANI, 32-years-old, of Kitchener was charged the following;

  • Driving while under suspension

Both drivers are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Stratford on a future date to speak to the charges.  



Three stunt drivers removed from the roads  

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) - Drivers travelling on the roadways continue to exceed posted speed limits. Over this past week, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located three stunt drivers. Stunt driving occurs when a police officer finds a driver driving in excess of fifty (50) kilometres per hour of the posted speed limit.  

On November 29, 2019, a driver was located travelling well above the posted speed limit on Perth Road 163, south of Fullarton in the Municipality of West Perth. 

Judd WALKER, 19-years-old of West Perth was charged with racing.  

On November 29, 2019, a driver was located travelling well above the posted speed limit on Perth Line 34, east of Stratford in the Township of Perth East. 

Rico GERUSSI, 67-years-old of Stratford was charged with racing.  

On November 30, 2019, a driver was located travelling well above the posted speed limit on Perth Line 36, north of Mitchell in the Municipality of West Perth. 

Justine BENNEWIES, 24-years-old of West Perth was charged with racing.  

All driver's received licence suspensions, and will appear in court at a later date to speak to the charges. The motor vehicles were towed and impounded.  

"Speed is a significant factor in the number of fatalities and the number and severity of the injuries that result from road crashes. It is clear that reduced speeds not only reduce the likelihood of a crash but also reduce the severity of injuries when crashes occur," Inspector Rob Scott, Perth County OPP detachment commander.

Execute drug warrant

 (SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) - On Thursday, November 28, 2019 at 2:07 p.m. members of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Grey-Bruce and Huron-Perth Community Street Crime Units (CSCU), executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a residence at Highway 21 in Allenford, South Bruce Peninsula. 

 As a result of the execution of the search warrant, police seized methamphetamine. OPP officers also seized offence related property and assorted drug paraphernalia. A person located in the residence was arrested and charged. 

 53 year old, John WILSON of Allenford has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

 The accused was released on a promise to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on January 9, 2020.
